Rigging

Over at Redbana I got to do a lot of rigging, and I took quite a liking to it actually. I had to redo a bunch of stuff while migrating the pipeline from 3dmax over to maya, so I got a ton of practice. Anyways, when all was said and done I though that I’d include a section on rigging here on my page from now on, so I could post some of the rigs I’m working on.

I should also add that I am really grateful to Erik Koehlert, for all his help, advise, and endless supply of tutorials while I was learning all of this. At the same time I want to point out how incredibly amazing Jason Schlifer’s Animator Friendly Rigging series is. I mean..wow…If you are interested in Rigging, this is the big-boy stuff. At the same time, its super easy to learn, and quite aproachable. Big, big, big thank you to Jason for sharing his wealth of knowledge.

This is a Rig I made for Hellgate: London using the Character Animation Toolkit plugin (CAT) It is an alternative to biped that lets me control the set up more. It offers, in my opinion, more flexibility, and a good layering system. In any case it was already implemented into the pipline when i got there ;-P

I’ll be posting a segmented rig that I made using Jason Schilifer’s methods soon. Just need the time to sit down and camtasia a quick rig test.
